Xbox Series S on contract is retailer device financing rather than a mobile contract — no SIM, no airtime, no bundled data.
It is the cheapest route into current-generation Xbox gaming. On the listing we checked the Series S was R10 999 in cash, or R15 720 on a 24-month credit agreement — so financing added R4 721. A six-week interest-free option was R2 500 a month.
This page covers those routes, what the digital-only design means in practice, and what you still need to budget for.

The Series S is compact and digital-only: there is no disc drive, so every game is downloaded. It targets native 1440p at 60 FPS, up to 120 FPS, with 512GB of internal storage on the listing we checked.
| Route | What you pay | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Cash | R10 999 once off (promotional R9 999 to 28 Sep 2026) | R10 999 |
| Four instalments over six weeks, no interest, no fees | R2 500 × 4 | R10 000 |
| Retailer credit over 24 months at 18% | R655 pm | R15 720 |
Note the six-week total is slightly below the cash price because the instalments are based on the promotional figure. Against the 24-month agreement, though, financing costs 43% more for the same console.
A 1TB white Series S was listed separately at R11 999. If you are downloading everything, the extra R1 000 for double the storage is usually the better buy — 512GB fills quickly.
If you want a disc drive or 4K output, that means the flagship instead: Xbox Series X contract deals. For both models side by side, see Xbox contract deals.
Current Xbox Series S Contract Deals
CURRENT MARKET FACT (checked September 2026 on Incredible Connection’s Xbox Series S listing): a normal price of R10 999 with a promotional price of R9 999 marked as ending Monday 28 September 2026. Credit terms were R655 per month over 24 months at an 18% interest rate, a credit price of R15 720. A buy-now-pay-later option of four instalments of R2 500 over six weeks was offered with no interest and no fees.
The listing specified 512GB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage, native 1440p at 60 FPS up to 120 FPS, and DirectX raytracing. A separate 1TB white model was listed at R11 999.
Promotional prices move quickly and the one above may already have lapsed by the time you read this. Check the current listing, and compare retailers before accepting credit.
Monthly Prices and Contract Terms
The agreement on the listing we checked ran 24 months at an 18% interest rate: R655 a month, credit price R15 720.
One detail matters more here than on the flagship. The credit price of R15 720 works out against the normal R10 999 rather than the promotional R9 999, so a sale price does not automatically reduce the financed total. Ask which figure the instalment is calculated on.
Also ask whether initiation or monthly service fees apply on top, and what early settlement would cost — the National Credit Act entitles you to settle early, and the saving depends on how interest is applied.
What Is Included
The Series S is the console and one controller. Because it has no disc drive, some of the “extras” are less optional than they look.
| Included | You still pay for |
|---|---|
| Xbox Series S console, 512GB SSD | Every game, all downloaded |
| One wireless controller | A second controller for local multiplayer |
| Power and display cables | An online subscription after any trial |
| Manufacturer warranty | Expansion storage — 512GB fills fast |
| — | Internet and data for large downloads |
With no disc drive there is no second-hand market to buy into and nothing to resell, so your software costs are full price and permanent. On a tight budget that changes the arithmetic: the cheaper console can end up costing more in games.
Networks, Retailers or Providers to Compare
Consoles in South Africa are financed by retailers and credit providers, not by mobile networks. That is the practical difference between this and a phone contract: there is no SIM, no airtime and no bundled data offsetting the monthly cost.
- Electronics and appliance retailers — the usual route. They quote a monthly instalment with an interest rate and a credit price, and run their own credit and affordability checks.
- Buy-now-pay-later providers — short interest-free terms, a handful of instalments over weeks rather than years.
- Mobile networks — generally not a console route. When we checked Cell C’s current promotional booklet (valid 22 September to 2 November 2026) it listed no PlayStation, PS5 or Xbox at all. Networks that bundle hardware tend to focus on phones, tablets, laptops and routers.
- Your own bank — a personal loan or credit card may cost less than in-store credit at 18%. Worth pricing before you accept the retailer’s offer.

How to Choose the Right Deal
Which route suits which situation
You want current-generation Xbox at the lowest entry price. This is it — R10 999 cash, around R7 000 less than the Series X.
You can cover it in six weeks. Take the interest-free option and skip R4 721 of interest.
You download everything anyway. The digital-only design costs you nothing, and the Series S is a sensible buy. Consider the 1TB version.
You buy discs, borrow or resell games. The Series S is the wrong console. You need a disc drive.
Your internet is slow, capped or unreliable. Think carefully. Downloading is the only way to get games onto this machine.
What to check before you apply
- Credit price against cash price. Monthly instalment × term, plus any deposit.
- The interest rate, stated explicitly, and whether initiation or monthly service fees sit on top.
- The term, and what early settlement would cost.
- Which exact model the price covers, including storage and whether a disc drive is included.
- Whether a sale price is the financed base. A promotional cash price does not always lower the quoted instalment.
- Bundled games or subscription — the included length and the renewal price afterwards.
- Who the credit provider is, and what happens if you miss a payment.
- Warranty length and where repairs are handled.
- Your internet situation — updates and installs are large, and on a digital-only console downloading is the only route.
Financing applications are subject to the credit provider’s checks — normally identification, proof of address, banking details, and a credit and affordability assessment under the National Credit Act. Requirements vary by provider.
