When we checked on 13 September 2026, the only PS5 contract route we found on a South African network was at MTN. MTN’s September 2026 Y’ello Trader lists a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition as an add-on to selected MTN Home Internet contracts, from R639 PMx36 (MTN Y’ello Trader, checked September 2026, offer valid 7 September to 6 October 2026). Vodacom, Telkom and Cell C did not list a PS5 console on contract. Console deals usually appear as limited promotions, so compare the add-on’s total cost against buying outright, and check the dates before relying on any offer.

Compare Ps5 Contract Deals
A console contract is normally structured like a laptop or tablet deal: the device cost is spread over a fixed term and tied to a plan, such as a home internet or data package. At MTN, the console is an add-on to a Home Internet contract, so you are comparing two things at once: the console and the connectivity you are signing up for.

How MTN’s PS5 add-on works
- Console: PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (no disc drive), from R639 PMx36 on MTN’s Y’ello Trader, checked September 2026.
- Qualifying plans: MTN Home Internet Premium, Ultra or Infinite. The trader’s terms refer to 36-month contracts, and say plan subscription fees apply on top.
- How you get the console: you receive a Y’ello Cart voucher once the contract is activated, and redeem it online at Y’ello Cart. It can’t be redeemed in-store.
- Validity: the trader runs from 7 September to 6 October 2026.
What is available instead
- Another console on contract. MTN’s trader lists an Xbox Series S 512GB add-on from R489 PMx36, and Vodacom’s gaming category listed an Xbox Series S 512GB from R769 PM, both checked September 2026. Vodacom’s listing didn’t show the term or plan, so open the deal page before comparing.
- Once-off purchase. Buying a PS5 outright avoids a 36-month commitment and any plan you don’t need.
- Retailer credit or tech-on-contract routes. Some electronics retailers partner with networks to sell tech on contract. Stock and terms vary, so confirm the exact console, plan and total cost before applying.
Monthly Prices and Contract Terms
The MTN add-on price is only part of what you’d pay. Look beyond the headline number.
Terms to check
- Contract length. MTN’s PS5 add-on runs over 36 months. A lower monthly price on a longer term often means a higher total.
- Plan subscription. The add-on amount doesn’t include the Home Internet plan itself. Add both together.
- Once-off fees. MTN’s trader says new contracts carry a once-off in-store SIM and connection fee of R150, checked September 2026.
- Upfront payment. From 7 September 2026, MTN says new postpaid Mobile and Home contracts need an upfront payment equal to one month’s subscription.
- Cancellation. MTN notes early cancellation fees apply on Home Internet deals. Cancelling early can also mean settling the remaining device balance.
Quick total-cost check
Multiply the add-on and plan amounts by 36, add the once-off fees, and compare that total with the console’s cash price plus what you already pay for internet. If the gap is large, the convenience of monthly payments is costing you a lot.
What Is Included
Console contracts are rarely “just a PS5”. Check exactly what the monthly payment covers:
- The console edition. MTN’s add-on is the Digital Edition, which has no disc drive. Check storage before comparing with a disc model.
- Controllers. One is normally in the box; a second may or may not be included.
- Games or subscriptions. Bundled titles or a PlayStation Plus period add value only if you’d have bought them anyway.
- The plan. Check the data allocation, the fair usage policy and speed limits, and whether it suits online gaming.
- Router. MTN Home Internet includes a free-to-use router while you stay on the plan. Check what happens to it if you cancel.
- Warranty and delivery. The console is fulfilled through Y’ello Cart, and MTN’s terms say it isn’t responsible for Y’ello Cart stock or delivery delays. Confirm who handles repairs.

MTN is the network where we found a PS5 add-on. Vodacom, Telkom and Cell C sell other non-phone devices on contract at different times. The most reliable places to check are each network’s official online shop and its current catalogue or deal booklet. Catalogues have a printed validity period, so check the dates before relying on a deal you’ve seen.
Electronics retailers
Large electronics retailers sometimes run “tech on contract” programmes with a partner network. The contract is still with the network, so the network’s credit check and terms apply.
Buying outright or on store credit
If you already pay for fibre or LTE at home, buying the console once-off or on a short retail credit agreement may be simpler. It avoids adding a second connectivity plan to your monthly budget.
