Buying an Xbox on contract in South Africa means device financing, not a mobile contract. There is no network, no SIM and no airtime — you pay a retailer or credit provider a monthly amount until the console is settled.

That distinction decides which numbers matter. With no bundled data offsetting the cost, the only comparison worth making is the credit price against the cash price. On the current listings we checked, financing an Xbox added between R4 721 and R8 065 to the same hardware.

This page sets out what both current Xbox consoles cost in cash and on credit, and how to judge whether financing is worth it.

Compare Xbox Contract Deals

There are two current Xbox consoles and they are not minor variants of each other.

What to compare Xbox Series S Xbox Series X
Positioning Compact, entry price Higher specification, flagship
Disc drive No — digital only Yes
Storage on the listing we checked 512GB (a 1TB version is also sold) 1TB
Target output Native 1440p at 60 FPS, up to 120 FPS True 4K at 60 FPS, up to 120 FPS
Cash price (25 Sep 2026) R10 999 R17 999
Credit price over 24 months R15 720 R26 064

The gap is about R7 000 in cash and over R10 000 on credit. If you buy physical discs, the disc drive settles it; if you buy digitally, the Series S covers that for much less. Full detail on each: Xbox Series X contract deals and Xbox Series S contract deals.

Current Xbox Contract Deals

CURRENT MARKET FACT (checked September 2026 on Incredible Connection’s Xbox Series X listing and Series S listing): both current Xbox consoles are sold with a retailer credit option quoted directly on the product page.

Console Cash price Financed over 24 months Credit price What financing adds
Xbox Series S (512GB) R10 999 R655 pm at 18% R15 720 R4 721
Xbox Series X (1TB) R17 999 R1 086 pm at 18% R26 064 R8 065
PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) R14 499 R901 pm at 18% R21 624 R7 125
PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) R15 499 R954 pm at 18% R22 896 R7 397

The Series S also appeared at a promotional R9 999 against a normal R10 999, marked as ending 28 September 2026. A 1TB white Series S was listed at R11 999.

We have not published a full price list, because console pricing changes often and varies by retailer. Check the listing on the day you buy and compare at least two retailers before accepting credit.

Monthly Prices and Contract Terms

The structure is the same across the consoles we checked: a 24-month term at an 18% interest rate, quoted as a monthly instalment with the total shown separately as a “credit price”. That credit price is the number to compare against the cash price, and it is the one most people skip.

Console Cash price Financed over 24 months Credit price What financing adds
Xbox Series S (512GB) R10 999 R655 pm at 18% R15 720 R4 721
Xbox Series X (1TB) R17 999 R1 086 pm at 18% R26 064 R8 065
PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) R14 499 R901 pm at 18% R21 624 R7 125
PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) R15 499 R954 pm at 18% R22 896 R7 397

Read the last column first. Financing added between R4 721 and R8 065 to the same hardware — roughly 43% to 48% on top of cash.

There is usually a shorter alternative on the same product page. The listings we checked also offered four instalments over six weeks with no interest and no fees — R2 500 for the Series S and R4 500 for the Series X. If you can carry that over six weeks rather than two years, it is far cheaper.

Before you sign, ask for the term, the interest rate, the credit price and the early-settlement cost in writing. The National Credit Act entitles you to settle early; the saving depends on how interest is calculated.

What Is Included

An Xbox purchase, financed or not, is the console and one wireless controller. Almost everything that makes it useful is extra.

In the box Not included
The console Games, unless a bundle explicitly says otherwise
One wireless controller A second controller for local multiplayer
Cables for power and display An online subscription after any included trial
Internal storage (512GB or 1TB depending on model) Expansion storage, which fills faster than people expect
Manufacturer warranty Internet access for updates and downloads

Two of those matter more on a financed purchase: a second controller and a year of an online subscription add meaningfully to the real cost, and neither is covered by the instalment. On a digital-only Series S, internet is the only way to get games onto the machine.

Networks, Retailers or Providers to Compare

Consoles in South Africa are financed by retailers and credit providers, not by mobile networks. That is the practical difference between this and a phone contract: there is no SIM, no airtime and no bundled data offsetting the monthly cost.

How to Choose the Right Deal

Which console suits which situation

You play the latest titles and want the best image quality. The Series X, and the extra cost is easier to justify on a console you will keep for years.

You buy digitally and play a few games at a time. The Series S does that well, and the difference in credit price is over R10 000.

You buy physical discs, borrow or resell games. You need the disc drive, so the Series X.

You could cover the cash price within six weeks. Take the interest-free short-term option instead of the 24-month agreement. On the Series X that is the difference between R17 999 and R26 064.

The instalment is affordable but the credit price makes you hesitate. That instinct is right — saving for two or three months then buying outright usually costs far less.

What to check before you apply

Financing applications are subject to the credit provider’s checks — normally identification, proof of address, banking details, and a credit and affordability assessment under the National Credit Act. Requirements vary by provider.

Xbox Contract Deals FAQs

Can you get an Xbox on contract in South Africa?

Not on a mobile contract. Consoles are sold on retailer credit or buy-now-pay-later terms, which is device financing rather than a network contract. There is no SIM or airtime involved.

How much does an Xbox cost per month?

On the listings we checked on 25 September 2026, R655 a month over 24 months for the Series S and R1 086 for the Series X, both at 18%. Those figures change with price, term and provider, so confirm the current quote.

Is financing an Xbox worth it?

It depends on what you are comparing. Against buying outright, financing added R4 721 to R8 065 on the consoles we checked. Against not having the console at all, only you can judge that — but check the interest-free short-term option first.

What is the difference between the Series X and Series S?

The Series X has a disc drive, more storage and targets true 4K. The Series S is digital-only, smaller, targets 1440p and costs around R7 000 less in cash.

Do I need internet for an Xbox?

For setup, updates and digital purchases, yes, and the downloads are large. On the digital-only Series S there is no alternative to downloading, so factor your connection and data into the decision.

Can I settle the agreement early?

Under the National Credit Act you may settle a credit agreement early. Ask the provider for the settlement calculation before you sign, since the saving depends on how interest is applied.

Prices, sale end dates, stock and financing terms are set by each retailer and credit provider and change regularly. Figures above were checked on the source listed on 25 September 2026. Approval is never guaranteed and depends on your circumstances. Confirm the current cash price, credit price and terms before you commit.
