PS4 contract deals are now largely a question with no straightforward answer, and it is better to say so than to pretend otherwise. The PlayStation 4 is two generations old, and South African retailers have moved on.
When we checked, a search for a PS4 console at a major electronics retailer returned only accessories — controllers, charging cables, a racing wheel — and no console at all. There is no new PS4 to finance, so there is no PS4 contract or credit agreement to compare.
This page explains what that means practically, what the realistic alternatives are, and what to watch for if you are buying a used one.
Compare PS4 Contract Deals
There is nothing to compare on a new PS4, so the useful comparison is against what you can actually buy on credit today.
| Model | Cash price | 24 months at 18% | Credit price |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) | R14 499 | R901 pm | R21 624 |
| PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) | R15 499 | R954 pm | R22 896 |
| Xbox Series S (512GB) | R10 999 | R655 pm | R15 720 |
If your reason for wanting a PS4 was price, the Xbox Series S at R10 999 is the cheapest current-generation console we found, and it will be supported for years yet. If your reason was the PlayStation game library, the PS5 plays the vast majority of PS4 titles, so buying into the current generation does not mean abandoning those games.
See PlayStation contract deals for the current models and PS5 contract deals for the current-generation console specifically.
Current PS4 Contract Deals
CURRENT MARKET FACT (checked September 2026 on Incredible Connection’s search results for “PS4 console”): no PlayStation 4 console was listed. The results returned PS4 accessories only — a DualShock 4 controller at R1 299, third-party controllers from R399, a charge cable at R99 — alongside PS5 and Nintendo hardware.
That is the honest position: no new PS4 means no PS4 financing. Any monthly figure you see advertised for a PS4 will be for a used or refurbished unit, and the terms on those vary widely.
Accessories are still stocked, which matters if you already own the console and need a replacement controller. Those are low-value items normally bought outright rather than financed.
We have not published figures across every retailer, and availability changes. If you find a new PS4 listed somewhere, check the manufacture date and warranty before treating it as a bargain — old stock is not the same as a discount.
Monthly Prices and Contract Terms
Since there is no new PS4 to finance, the terms worth understanding are the ones attached to the consoles you can buy. On the listings we checked these ran 24 months at an 18% interest rate, with the monthly instalment quoted prominently and the total shown separately as a credit price.
| Model | Cash price | 24 months at 18% | Credit price |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) | R14 499 | R901 pm | R21 624 |
| PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) | R15 499 | R954 pm | R22 896 |
| Xbox Series S (512GB) | R10 999 | R655 pm | R15 720 |
Financing added roughly 43% to 48% to the cash price on those listings. The same pages also offered a buy-now-pay-later option of four instalments over six weeks with no interest and no fees, which comes to about the cash price — a much cheaper route if you can carry it.
If you are looking at a used PS4 instead, the terms are different in kind. Second-hand purchases are often cash, lay-by or an informal arrangement, and a private sale carries no warranty and no recourse. Where a used console is financed, ask for the interest rate, the total repayable and the early-settlement cost in writing, exactly as you would on new hardware.
What Is Included
With no new units on sale, what you get depends entirely on where a used console comes from.
| Source | Typically included | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Private sale | Console and a controller, condition varies | No warranty, no returns, no recourse |
| Refurbished through a retailer | Console, controller, a limited warranty | Warranty length and what it covers |
| Pre-owned specialist | Console, controller, condition grading | What the grade actually means |
| Old new stock, if you find it | Full retail contents | Age of the unit and remaining warranty |
Games are separate in every case. So is an online subscription if you want to play online. And a used console carries risks new hardware does not: a worn optical drive, a noisy or failing fan, and a hard drive that has been running for years.
Ask to see it powered on, running a game, before money changes hands. Most faults that matter show up within a few minutes of actual use.
Networks, Retailers or Providers to Compare
Consoles in South Africa are financed by retailers and credit providers, not by mobile networks — there is no SIM, no airtime and no bundled data offsetting the cost.
- Electronics and appliance retailers — the usual route for current consoles, quoting a monthly instalment with an interest rate and a credit price.
- Pre-owned and refurbished specialists — the realistic route to a PS4, and the place to ask hardest about warranty and condition grading.
- Buy-now-pay-later providers — short interest-free terms on new hardware.
- Mobile networks — generally not a console route at all. Cell C’s current promotional booklet, valid 22 September to 2 November 2026, listed no PlayStation, PS5 or Xbox.
- Your own bank — a personal loan or credit card may undercut in-store credit at 18%.

How to Choose the Right Deal
Which route suits which situation
You want the cheapest way into console gaming. The Xbox Series S at R10 999 was the lowest current-generation cash price we found, and it stays supported.
You want PlayStation specifically. Buy into the PS5. It plays the large majority of PS4 titles, so the library you wanted comes with it.
You already own PS4 games on disc. The PS5 Slim Disc Edition can read them. The Digital Edition cannot, which is a real consideration if your collection is physical.
Your budget genuinely only reaches a used PS4. That is a reasonable choice — buy from somewhere that gives you a warranty, and test it before paying.
Someone offers you a PS4 on a monthly plan. Work out the total. Paying interest over two years on two-generation-old hardware is rarely good value.
What to check before you commit
- Total repayable against the cash or asking price — instalment × term, plus any deposit.
- The interest rate, and whether initiation or service fees sit on top.
- Warranty — length, what it covers, and who honours it.
- Condition on anything used: drive, fan noise, controller drift, storage health.
- Which model and storage the price covers.
- What games cost for the platform now, since software is where the ongoing money goes.
- Who the credit provider is, and the consequence of a missed payment.
Any financing is subject to the credit provider’s checks — normally identification, proof of address, banking details, and a credit and affordability assessment under the National Credit Act. Approval is not guaranteed.
PS4 Contract Deals FAQs
Can you still get a PS4 on contract in South Africa?
Not on new hardware. When we checked on 25 September 2026, a major retailer’s search for a PS4 console returned accessories only, with no console listed. Without new stock there is nothing to finance.
How much does a PS4 cost per month?
There is no current new-unit financing to quote. Any monthly figure advertised will relate to a used or refurbished console, and those terms vary by seller. Ask for the total repayable before agreeing.
Should I buy a used PS4 or a new PS5?
If the budget stretches to it, the PS5 — it is supported, it comes with a warranty, and it plays most PS4 games. A used PS4 makes sense mainly when the budget does not reach further.
Will my PS4 games work on a PS5?
The large majority of PS4 titles are playable on PS5. Physical discs need the Slim Disc Edition rather than the Digital Edition.
Are PS4 accessories still sold?
Yes. The retailer we checked listed a DualShock 4 controller at R1 299 and third-party controllers from R399, which is useful if you already own the console.
Is a cheap PS4 deal worth taking?
Check what it actually is. Old new stock is not a discount, and a private sale gives you no warranty. Test the console running a game before paying.
Prices, stock, availability and financing terms are set by each retailer and credit provider and change regularly. Figures above were checked on the source listed on 25 September 2026. Approval is never guaranteed and depends on your circumstances. Confirm current terms before you commit.
