PlayStation on contract in South Africa means retailer device financing, not a mobile contract. There is no network, no SIM and no airtime — you pay a monthly instalment until the console is settled.
With no bundled data offsetting the cost, the comparison that matters is the credit price against the cash price. On the listings we checked, financing a PS5 over 24 months added between R7 125 and R7 397 to the same hardware.
This page compares the current PlayStation models, the financing terms attached to them, and what you get before you start buying games.

Three current PlayStation 5 models were listed, and the choice between them is mostly about the disc drive and storage.
| Model | Cash price | 24 months at 18% | Credit price | Financing adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) | R14 499 | R901 pm | R21 624 | R7 125 |
| PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) | R15 499 | R954 pm | R22 896 | R7 397 |
| PS5 Pro | R22 999 (promotional R22 499) | — | — | — |
The Digital Edition is R1 000 cheaper in cash than the Slim Disc but gives up the disc drive and 175GB of storage. Given that a separate add-on disc drive for digital consoles was listed at R2 699, buying the Digital Edition and adding a drive later is the more expensive path — if you want discs, start with the disc model.
The PS5 Pro sits well above both at R22 999. It is aimed at people who want the highest image quality and are not price-sensitive.
The previous generation is effectively gone from new retail, which matters if you were hoping to buy a PS4 instead.
Current PlayStation Contract Deals
CURRENT MARKET FACT (checked September 2026 on Incredible Connection’s PS5 Slim Disc listing and PS5 Digital Edition listing): the PS5 Slim Disc Edition with 1TB was R15 499 cash, or R954 per month over 24 months at 18% for a credit price of R22 896. The PS5 Digital Edition with 825GB was R14 499 cash, or R901 per month at 18% for a credit price of R21 624. Six-week interest-free options were R3 875 and R3 625 a month respectively.
| Model | Cash price | 24 months at 18% | Credit price | Financing adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) | R14 499 | R901 pm | R21 624 | R7 125 |
| PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) | R15 499 | R954 pm | R22 896 | R7 397 |
| PS5 Pro | R22 999 (promotional R22 499) | — | — | — |
A PS5 Pro was listed at R22 999 with a promotional R22 499, and an add-on disc drive for digital consoles at R2 699.
We have not published prices across retailers, because console pricing moves often. Check the listing on the day you buy and compare at least two before accepting credit.
Monthly Prices and Contract Terms
The PlayStation listings we checked used the same structure as other console financing: a 24-month term at an 18% interest rate, with the monthly instalment quoted prominently and the credit price shown separately.
| Model | Cash price | 24 months at 18% | Credit price | Financing adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 Digital Edition (825GB) | R14 499 | R901 pm | R21 624 | R7 125 |
| PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) | R15 499 | R954 pm | R22 896 | R7 397 |
| PS5 Pro | R22 999 (promotional R22 499) | — | — | — |
On both PS5 models the financing premium was around 48% of the cash price. The six-week interest-free alternative on the same listings came to roughly the cash price — R15 500 for the Slim Disc and R14 500 for the Digital Edition — so it is materially cheaper than the 24-month route if you can carry it.
Ask for the interest rate, any initiation or service fees, the credit price and the early-settlement cost in writing. The National Credit Act entitles you to settle early; how much that saves depends on the interest calculation.
What Is Included
A PS5 purchase is the console and one wireless controller. Games and subscriptions are separate, and on a financed purchase they are not covered by the instalment.
| Included | You still pay for |
|---|---|
| The console, 825GB or 1TB SSD | Games, unless a bundle says otherwise |
| One DualSense wireless controller | A second controller — listed separately from R1 799 |
| Power and display cables | An online subscription after any included trial |
| Manufacturer warranty | Expansion storage as installs accumulate |
| A disc drive on the Slim Disc model only | An add-on disc drive for digital models, listed at R2 699 |
The second controller is worth planning for. At the listed R1 799 it is a real addition to the cost if anyone else in the house plays, and it does not appear anywhere in the monthly instalment.
Networks, Retailers or Providers to Compare
Consoles in South Africa are financed by retailers and credit providers, not by mobile networks. That is the practical difference between this and a phone contract: there is no SIM, no airtime and no bundled data offsetting the monthly cost.
- Electronics and appliance retailers — the usual route. They quote a monthly instalment with an interest rate and a credit price, and run their own credit and affordability checks.
- Buy-now-pay-later providers — short interest-free terms, a handful of instalments over weeks rather than years.
- Mobile networks — generally not a console route. When we checked Cell C’s current promotional booklet (valid 22 September to 2 November 2026) it listed no PlayStation, PS5 or Xbox at all. Networks that bundle hardware tend to focus on phones, tablets, laptops and routers.
- Your own bank — a personal loan or credit card may cost less than in-store credit at 18%. Worth pricing before you accept the retailer’s offer.

How to Choose the Right Deal
Which model and route suit which situation
You buy physical discs, borrow or resell games. The Slim Disc Edition. Adding a drive later costs R2 699, which wipes out the saving on the Digital Edition.
You buy everything digitally. The Digital Edition saves R1 000 in cash, though you take 825GB instead of 1TB.
You want the best image quality and price is secondary. The PS5 Pro.
You can pay cash or clear it in six weeks. Do that — it saves over R7 000 against the 24-month agreement.
Only the monthly figure works. Around R900 to R950 a month over 24 months, with a total near R22 000. Reasonable if it fits your budget and you accept the total.
What to check before you apply
- Credit price against cash price. Monthly instalment × term, plus any deposit.
- The interest rate, stated explicitly, and whether initiation or monthly service fees sit on top.
- The term, and what early settlement would cost.
- Which exact model the price covers, including storage and whether a disc drive is included.
- Whether a sale price is the financed base. A promotional cash price does not always lower the quoted instalment.
- Bundled games or subscription — the included length and the renewal price afterwards.
- Who the credit provider is, and what happens if you miss a payment.
- Warranty length and where repairs are handled.
- Your internet situation — updates and installs are large, and on a digital-only console downloading is the only route.
Financing applications are subject to the credit provider’s checks — normally identification, proof of address, banking details, and a credit and affordability assessment under the National Credit Act. Requirements vary by provider.
PlayStation Contract Deals FAQs
How much is a PS5 per month in South Africa?
On the listings we checked on 25 September 2026, R901 a month for the Digital Edition and R954 for the Slim Disc, both over 24 months at 18%. Credit prices were R21 624 and R22 896. Confirm current figures with the retailer.
Can I get a PlayStation on a phone contract?
Generally no. Consoles are financed through retailers and credit providers rather than mobile networks. Cell C’s booklet valid to 2 November 2026 listed no PlayStation, PS5 or Xbox.
Digital Edition or Slim Disc?
If you want physical games, the Slim Disc — it is R1 000 more and includes the drive, where adding one later costs R2 699. If you buy digitally, the Digital Edition is the cheaper entry.
Is financing a PS5 worth it?
It added about R7 100 to R7 400 on the listings we checked. If you can use the interest-free six-week option or pay cash, that is substantially cheaper for identical hardware.
Can I still buy a PS4?
Not readily new. At the retailer we checked, searching for a PS4 console returned only accessories — controllers and cables — with no console listed. See PS4 contract deals.
Do I need internet for a PS5?
For setup, updates and digital purchases, yes, and downloads are large. On the Digital Edition downloading is the only way to get games.
Prices, sale end dates, stock and financing terms are set by each retailer and credit provider and change regularly. Figures above were checked on the source listed on 25 September 2026. Approval is never guaranteed and depends on your circumstances. Confirm the current cash price, credit price and terms before you commit.
