The iPhone 17 is Apple’s current standard iPhone in South Africa, and it’s available on contract from Vodacom, Telkom, Cell C and MTN. When we checked in September 2026, Vodacom listed the iPhone 17 256GB from R849 pm x 36, Telkom showed it from R779 pm, and MTN’s catalogue had it at R799 pm x 36 (catalogue valid until 6 October 2026). It comes in 256GB or 512GB, so storage is the first choice that changes your monthly price.

The iPhone 17 sits between the lower-cost iPhone 17e and iPhone 16 and the iPhone 17 Pro models. To compare it against the rest of Apple’s range, see our iPhone Contract Deals page.

iPhone 17, iPhone 17e or iPhone Air?

Search terms like “iPhone 17 Air” and “iPhone 17e” often lead here, but Apple sells these as separate models:

Monthly Price and Contract Term

Vodacom

Vodacom’s iPhone 17 256GB page offered 24-month and 36-month terms. The 36-month deals shown were:

Vodacom plan shown Data Voice Monthly price (checked September 2026)
Lowest price 3GB Unlimited R849 pm x 36
Promotion 3GB Unlimited R879 pm x 36
Best value for money 10GB Unlimited R949 pm x 36

The 512GB version was listed from R1,079 pm, so doubling storage adds a noticeable amount each month. If you mostly use cloud storage, 256GB may be enough.

Telkom

Telkom’s device gallery showed the iPhone 17 from R779 pm with a “Monthly deal” tag and more than one variant. Open the listing to see which storage size and FlexOn plan that price applies to.

Choosing a term

A 36-month term spreads the phone cost further and lowers the monthly payment, but you stay tied in for longer and usually pay more overall. On a flagship like the iPhone 17, check the total contract amount on both 24 and 36 months.

Data, Minutes and Included Extras

Vodacom’s entry iPhone 17 deals include 3GB of data and unlimited voice. That’s more than the 1GB on Vodacom’s cheapest iPhone 16 plans, but still light for heavy users.

Compare these plan details:

Two iPhone 17s on one contract

Vodacom’s Double Deals included 2x iPhone 17 256GB with 3GB data and unlimited voice from R1,599 pm x 36 when we checked. This is two financed devices on one deal, not a free second phone. Check the data allocation, whether it’s shared, and the terms for each device.

Current Networks, Retailers or Providers

Vodacom

Vodacom had the broadest iPhone 17 range online, with 256GB and 512GB options for new contracts, upgrades and once-off purchase. The Lavender 256GB model showed as out of stock with a 2–5 week order time. Browse the range on Vodacom’s Apple device listing.

Telkom

Telkom listed the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air on its FlexOn-based deals.

Cell C

Cell C’s contract page listed the iPhone 17 in 256GB and 512GB on its Elevate 2 plan. Prices didn’t load when we checked, so confirm them with Cell C.

MTN

MTN’s September 2026 catalogue lists the iPhone 17 256GB at R799 pm x 36 on Yellow Plans prime, which includes 2GB of anytime data and 240 all-network minutes (catalogue valid until 6 October 2026, checked September 2026). It also lists the iPhone 17e and iPhone Air 256GB at R649 pm x 36 each on plus. A separate upgrade deal puts the iPhone 17 256GB on MTN’s Iron plan at R1 219 pm x 36. MTN’s online Apple listing didn’t show the standard iPhone 17 on 12 September, so confirm how to order. Stock isn’t guaranteed.

Newer models

Vodacom was already listing iPhone 18 Pro models for pre-order. New launches can affect iPhone 17 promotions and stock, so prices may shift in the weeks after a launch.

Total cost: monthly price × term, plus fees. 4. Stock and colour: Black, White, Mist Blue, Sage and Lavender are Apple’s colours, but network stock varies. 5. Upgrade status: check whether you qualify for an upgrade. 6. Application requirements: expect ID, proof of address and bank details, plus credit and affordability checks. Approval isn’t guaranteed.
