What you can still get is a pre-owned standard iPhone 14 at Vodacom and MTN, older pre-owned iPhones on other networks, or the current iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want Pro Max features. What the iPhone 14 Pro Max offers
Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Max tech specs show a 6.7-inch OLED display with ProMotion (up to 120Hz) and an Always-On display, the Dynamic Island, the A16 Bionic chip and a 48MP main camera with a 3x Telephoto lens. It uses a Lightning connector, supports 5G and was sold in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
Why a pre-owned iPhone 14 isn’t a like-for-like swap
The standard iPhone 14 shares the name but not the Pro Max hardware. Apple lists it with a 6.1-inch display, the older A15 Bionic chip, 12MP main and Ultra Wide cameras and no telephoto lens. ProMotion and the Always-On display aren’t listed. It’s a lower-cost iPhone, not a smaller Pro Max.

Verified prices at Telkom
Telkom’s catalogue, valid 7 September to 6 October 2026, gives two useful reference points:
- iPhone 13 Pre-Owned: R339 pm x 36, or R429 x 24, on FlexOn 2 (checked September 2026).
- iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB: R1 079 pm x 36, or R1 479 x 24, on FlexOn 6 (checked September 2026).
MTN’s catalogue, also valid until 6 October 2026, lists the pre-owned iPhone 14 128GB at R449 pm x 36 on core and the iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB at R1 229 pm x 36 on deluxe (checked September 2026, while stock lasts). Vodacom sets its own price for the pre-owned iPhone 14. Check the current amount on its deal page, as pre-owned prices and stock change often.
Shorter or longer term
A 36-month term reduces the monthly payment but adds a year to your commitment. With an older pre-owned phone, think about whether the device will still meet your needs by the end of a three-year contract.
Data, Minutes and Included Extras
Lower-priced pre-owned deals are usually paired with smaller plans. On Telkom, the iPhone 13 Pre-Owned sits on FlexOn 2, which includes 2GB Anytime data, 500 Telkom-to-Telkom minutes and 75 all-network minutes. The iPhone 17 Pro Max on FlexOn 6 includes 6GB Anytime data, 1 000 Telkom-to-Telkom minutes and 150 all-network minutes. Both catalogue deals add 20GB of once-off bonus data valid for 31 days.
When comparing, look at:
- Anytime data you get every month
- all-network versus on-net minutes
- whether bonus data is once-off or recurring
- any top-up or capped structure that limits out-of-bundle spend

Vodacom
Vodacom’s range didn’t include the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Its pre-owned iPhone promotion covered the iPhone 11, iPhone 13 and standard iPhone 14.
MTN
MTN’s pre-owned range listed the iPhone 13 and standard iPhone 14 only, including a pre-owned iPhone 14 + iPhone 13 pair in its catalogue. Its September 2026 catalogue also lists the new iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, with no upgrade-only label on those deals.
Telkom
Telkom’s catalogue includes an iPhone 13 Pre-Owned and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with no iPhone 14 models.
Cell C
Cell C listed a certified pre-owned iPhone 13 and the iPhone 17 range, but not the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Retailers and pre-owned sellers
Some retailers sell pre-owned or refurbished iPhones, sometimes with a network contract attached. We haven’t verified iPhone 14 Pro Max stock from these sellers, so check grading, warranty, battery health and who holds the contract.

- SIM and connection fee: Telkom lists R99 once-off (checked September 2026). Other networks set their own.
- Validity: Telkom’s catalogue prices apply from 7 September to 6 October 2026 or while stocks last.
- Pre-owned terms: warranty length, device grading and what’s in the box.
- Price changes: Telkom’s terms allow tariff plan charges to be adjusted during a contract. Check escalation clauses on every network.
- Customer type: some prices apply to upgrades only.

What to Check Before You Apply
1. Model name: “iPhone 14” and “iPhone 14 Pro Max” are different phones. Check the screen size and cameras in the listing. 2. Connector: the iPhone 14 range uses Lightning, while newer models use USB-C. Factor in chargers and accessories. 3. Condition and warranty on any pre-owned deal. 4. Total contract cost over the full term, including once-off fees. 5. Application checks: networks usually ask for ID, proof of address and bank statements, and may run credit and affordability checks.
