What the iPhone 13 Pro Max offered
According to Apple’s tech specs, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch OLED display with ProMotion (adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz), the A15 Bionic chip, a 12MP Pro camera system with 3x optical zoom in, 5G and an IP68 rating. It uses a Lightning connector and was sold in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
Who should look at alternatives
- You want a large screen: a newer Pro Max is the only like-for-like size on network contracts.
- You want the lowest monthly cost: a pre-owned standard iPhone 13 is smaller and has fewer camera features, but is usually the cheaper route.
- You’re upgrading: check your network’s upgrade offers, as some iPhone deals are limited to existing customers.
Monthly Price and Contract Term
Because no network listed the iPhone 13 Pro Max, there’s no current monthly price to compare. If you see an “iPhone 13 Pro Max contract” advertised elsewhere, check:
- who finances the contract: a network, a retailer or a third-party lender
- the device condition: new, pre-owned or refurbished
- the full term: 24 or 36 months
- the total cost: monthly price multiplied by the number of months, plus once-off fees
A longer term generally lowers the monthly payment but increases what you pay overall. Older iPhones on long contracts can also leave you paying for a phone well past its best years, so weigh how long you plan to keep it.

With older and pre-owned iPhones, the lowest advertised price is often attached to a small data allocation. Before choosing an alternative, compare:
- how much anytime data you get each month, and whether night data is separate
- whether minutes are capped or unlimited
- whether the plan is a top-up version that limits out-of-bundle spend
- whether a charger or cable is included, especially on pre-owned deals
- any device insurance offered, and whether it’s optional
A plan with more data can cost less over the contract than buying extra bundles every month.
Current Networks, Retailers or Providers
Vodacom
Vodacom’s online Apple range focused on newer models, with a pre-owned iPhone section covering the iPhone 11, iPhone 13 and standard iPhone 14. The 13 Pro Max wasn’t among them.
MTN
MTN’s pre-owned range showed the standard iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 only. Its September 2026 catalogue (valid until 6 October 2026) lists a wider new range: the iPhone 16e, 15, 16, 17, 17e, Air, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.
Telkom
Telkom’s Apple gallery ran from the iPhone 15 upwards, with the standard iPhone 13 as its only pre-owned iPhone.
Cell C
Cell C’s Apple range included a certified pre-owned iPhone 13 and the newer iPhone 15, 16 and 17 families, but not the 13 Pro Max.
Retailers and pre-owned specialists
Some Apple resellers and pre-owned specialists may sell a refurbished iPhone 13 Pro Max, sometimes linked to a network contract. We haven’t verified any current offer. If you find one, confirm the grading, battery health and warranty.

- delivery costs, which can depend on where you live
- deposits, which may be requested after a credit assessment

What to Check Before You Apply
1. Exact model: make sure the listing says Pro Max. A standard iPhone 13 is a smaller phone without the telephoto camera or ProMotion. 2. New or pre-owned: pre-owned deals can cost less, but confirm warranty and condition. 3. Customer type: some iPhone prices are for upgrades only. 4. Software support: older iPhones stop receiving major iOS updates over time, which matters on a 36-month contract. 5. Total cost: monthly price × term, plus once-off fees. 6.
