- Contract term. MTN’s watch add-ons run over 36 months. Check that this matches the phone contract you’re adding it to.
- Add-on rules. Watch add-ons are tied to qualifying Apple device contracts. Confirm your phone and plan qualify.
- Cellular service fee. A GPS + Cellular watch such as the Ultra 3 may need a separate monthly service to use its own connection. Ask the network what it charges.
- Once-off fees. MTN’s trader says new contracts carry a once-off in-store SIM and connection fee of R150, checked September 2026.
- Upfront payment. From 7 September 2026, MTN says new postpaid Mobile and Home contracts need an upfront payment equal to one month’s subscription.
- Cancellation. Cancelling early normally means settling the outstanding device balance.
A useful test: multiply the monthly add-on amount by 36 and compare it with the once-off price of the same watch.
What Is Included

- Case size and material. 40mm, 42mm, 44mm, 49mm and aluminium vs titanium all change the price.
- Band size and colour. Listings often specify S/M or M/L, and some add-ons come in one colour only.
- GPS or GPS + Cellular. This affects both the device price and whether you need a network service.
