The A33 brought proper ingress protection to Samsung’s mid-range — a rated resistance to dust and water, which had largely been a flagship feature. It is a genuinely useful thing to have, and widely misunderstood.

What an IP rating means

An IP rating has two digits. The first covers solid particles like dust; the second covers water. Higher is better in each.

A rating in the IP67 range means the phone is dust-tight and can survive brief immersion in shallow fresh water.

What it does not mean:

It is not a swimming rating. Ratings are tested in still fresh water, not pools or the sea.
Salt water and chlorine cause damage regardless of the rating.
Resistance degrades with age as seals and adhesives wear.
Water damage is usually excluded from warranty, even on rated phones — check this.

Treat it as insurance against rain and spills, not permission to take the phone swimming.
