The iPhone 12 isn’t currently available on contract from South Africa’s main networks. When we checked in September 2026, Vodacom and MTN didn’t list it online, either new or pre-owned, and Apple no longer sells it in its South African lineup. Our earlier checks of Telkom and Cell C found the same.
If you want an iPhone at a similar monthly cost, the realistic options are pre-owned iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 contracts, or entry-level new models such as the iPhone 16e. What the iPhone 12 offered
According to Apple’s tech specs, the iPhone 12 has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, the A14 Bionic chip, a dual 12MP camera system (Main and Ultra Wide) and 5G support. It uses a Lightning connector and was sold in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.
Any phone you choose instead should match or beat those basics. The pre-owned iPhone 13 is the closest step up: same screen size, a newer chip and a 128GB starting capacity.
Monthly Price and Contract Term
With no iPhone 12 listed, there’s no current network price to compare. If you see an iPhone 12 contract advertised elsewhere, confirm who is financing it, whether the phone is new, pre-owned or refurbished, and the full contract term.

How the term affects total cost
A 36-month term keeps the monthly amount lower but means you pay for longer. Multiply the monthly price by the number of months and add once-off fees to see the real cost.
Data, Minutes and Included Extras
Low “from” prices on older and pre-owned iPhones are often tied to small bundles. When comparing alternatives, look at:
- Anytime data each month, and whether any of it is night-time or app-specific
- Minutes and SMSes, and whether they’re capped
- Top-up or capped plans, which limit out-of-bundle spend
- What comes in the box on pre-owned deals, such as a cable or charger
If you use a lot of data, a higher plan can work out cheaper than buying extra bundles every month.

Vodacom
Vodacom’s pre-owned iPhone promotion listed three phones: iPhone 11, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. Its new Apple range includes the iPhone 16e, iPhone 15 and newer models. You can browse Vodacom’s pre-owned iPhone range for current stock.
MTN
MTN’s pre-owned section showed only the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, both on 36-month terms. There was no iPhone 12.
Telkom
Telkom’s Apple range, from our team’s check earlier this month, started at the iPhone 15 for new phones, with a pre-owned iPhone 13. Its shop didn’t load for us on the day of writing, so check it directly.
Cell C
Cell C’s Apple range, from the same earlier check, included a certified pre-owned iPhone 13 and the iPhone 15 onwards, but no iPhone 12.

Whichever alternative you pick, check:
- Connection or SIM fees shown on the deal page
- Delivery charges, which can depend on where you live
- Deposits, which a network may ask for after a credit assessment
- Who the price applies to: new customers, upgrades, or both
- Pre-owned terms, including grading, battery condition, warranty and returns
- Annual price increases written into the contract
What to Check Before You Apply
1. The exact model and storage. An iPhone 13 listing isn’t an iPhone 12, and a 64GB phone fills up faster than 128GB. 2. New or pre-owned. Pre-owned deals cost less per month, but confirm the warranty and condition. 3. Total cost over the term. Monthly price × months, plus once-off fees. 4. Documents. Networks usually ask for your ID, proof of address and bank details. 5. Credit and affordability checks. Approval isn’t guaranteed, and the network decides the final terms.

Not from Vodacom or MTN when we checked in September 2026, and our earlier checks of Telkom and Cell C didn’t find it either. Apple no longer sells it in South Africa.

No. With no iPhone 12 on contract, there are no double deals for it. Some networks run double deals on other phones, so check each network’s current offers.
What’s the best alternative to an iPhone 12 on contract?
A pre-owned iPhone 13 is the closest match with a newer chip. If you’d rather have a new phone, the iPhone 16e was listed at Vodacom.
