iPhone 17 Pro Max contract deals are available new from all four major networks, but not all of them list it online. When we checked in September 2026, Telkom’s catalogue had the 256GB model from R1 079 pm x 36, MTN’s catalogue from R1 229 pm x 36, and Cell C from R1,249 pm x 36. Vodacom listed it from R1,129 pm over 48 months. Apple still sells the iPhone 17 Pro Max in South Africa, but Vodacom now has the iPhone 18 Pro Max on pre-order, so these prices could change soon.

What you’re getting
According to Apple’s specs, the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, the A19 Pro chip, a USB-C connector and 5G. It comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. It’s the larger sibling of the iPhone 17 Pro, which has a 6.3-inch display.
Who it suits
The Pro Max makes sense if you want the largest current iPhone screen and plan to keep the phone for a full contract term. If the monthly cost is the main concern, the iPhone 17 Pro or an older model may be a better fit.

Vodacom
Vodacom’s 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max page showed the model in stock for new contracts and upgrades, with three terms:
- 48 months: from R1,129 pm
- 36 months: from R1,349 pm
- 24 months: from R1,799 pm
Vodacom’s listings started at R1,329 pm for 512GB, R1,479 pm for 1TB and R1,779 pm for 2TB.
Telkom
Telkom’s catalogue, valid 7 September to 6 October 2026, lists the 256GB on FlexOn»6 at R1 079 pm x 36 or R1 479 x 24, and the 512GB at R1 229 pm x 36.
MTN
MTN’s September 2026 Y’ello Trader catalogue lists the 256GB on Yellow deluxe at R1 229 pm x 36. A Spring Sale price puts the 512GB at R1 369 pm x 36. Neither was in MTN’s online shop.
Cell C
Cell C listed the 256GB model on Cell C Elevate 2 + at R1,249 pm x 36, with 24- and 36-month durations and all four storage sizes.
24, 36 or 48 months?
A longer term lowers the monthly payment but increases your total commitment. On Vodacom’s 256GB listings, the 48-month deal works out to R54,192 over the contract, the 36-month deal to R48,564 and the 24-month deal to R43,176, before fees. A 48-month contract also runs well past the next few iPhone launches.
Data, Minutes and Included Extras
The plans attached to the lowest prices are small, so check what’s included:
- Vodacom: the R1,129 pm x 48 deal included 5GB data and unlimited voice. A promotional R1,249 pm x 48 deal included 20GB.
- Telkom: FlexOn»6 includes 6GB anytime data, 1 000 Telkom-to-Telkom minutes and 150 all-network minutes, plus once-off 20GB bonus data.
- MTN: Yellow deluxe includes 6GB anytime data and 300 all-network minutes.
- Cell C: Elevate 2 + included 3GB anytime data, 300 any-net minutes and 300 SMS, plus a promotional “Free 5GB Data x 36”. Bigger Elevate plans go up to 100GB anytime data.

MTN and Telkom
MTN’s online shop listed only the iPhone 17 Pro, but its current catalogue includes the Pro Max, so ask in store. Telkom lists the Pro Max in both its catalogue and online shop.
Retailers
We didn’t verify iPhone 17 Pro Max contract offers from retailers. If you see one, check whether it’s a network contract, a store credit account or a cash price.
Upfront Costs, Fees and Promotion Terms
Fees we could confirm, checked September 2026:
- Telkom: R99 once-off SIM and connection fee.
- MTN: R150 once-off in-store SIM and connection fee on new contracts, and one month’s subscription upfront on new postpaid activations from 7 September 2026.

What to Check Before You Apply
1. iPhone 18 Pro Max timing: with pre-orders open, iPhone 17 Pro Max pricing and stock may change. 2. Contract length: a 48-month price isn’t directly comparable with a 36-month price. 3. Storage: 256GB is the entry size. Higher storage adds a noticeable amount each month. 4. Plan size: the lowest prices come with 3GB to 6GB of anytime data. 5. Total cost: monthly price × term, plus fees. 6. Application: expect ID, proof of address and bank details, plus credit and affordability checks. Approval isn’t guaranteed.

Yes. Telkom lists it in its catalogue and online shop. MTN lists it in its September 2026 catalogue but not in its online shop, so ask in store.
Should I wait for the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
It depends on your budget. Vodacom listed the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max from R1,249 pm on pre-order. The iPhone 17 Pro Max may become cheaper or scarcer once the new model ships.
Does the iPhone 17 Pro Max come in 2TB on contract?
Yes. Vodacom and Cell C both listed a 2TB option. MTN’s catalogue shows 256GB and 512GB. Vodacom’s 2TB model started at R1,779 pm.
Is the iPhone 17 Pro Max 5G?
Yes. Apple lists 5G support, and all the storage options use the same A19 Pro chip.
