Monthly Prices and Contract Terms
These terms come from Vodacom’s general contract terms and conditions, checked September 2026.
Contract length
- 24 months: a two-year commitment.
- 36 months: a three-year commitment. The monthly instalment is usually lower, but you pay for longer.
- 48 months: described as an affordability option to reduce monthly device instalments. It’s only available on some deals, mainly through online and call-centre channels.
A longer term lowers the monthly figure, but you may still be paying for a laptop that no longer does what you need. Multiply the monthly price by the number of months to see the full commitment.
Once-off fees
Vodacom’s terms list a standard connection fee of R97 on new contracts and a SIM card fee of about R105 if the SIM isn’t included, checked September 2026. Both are charged on your first bill. Check the order summary to see which fees apply to your laptop deal.
Spending limits
Vodacom applies a monthly call limit for the first seven months of a contract. After that, removing it depends on a credit assessment. The terms also allow Vodacom to set a monthly credit limit based on your credit profile.
Cancelling early
You can cancel a 24-, 36- or 48-month contract early, with at least 20 business days’ notice. Vodacom issues a cancellation quote, valid for 14 days, which can include:
- the subscription fee for the notice period;
- outstanding charges;
- the remaining device balance;
- the contract or device subsidy.
On a laptop deal, the device balance can be a large part of that quote.
When the term ends
Under Vodacom’s terms, a contract continues month to month after the initial period unless you or Vodacom end it with 20 business days’ notice. An upgrade starts a new contract with its own activation date.
What Is Included
Every deal is different, but a laptop contract usually includes some combination of:
- The laptop. Vodacom’s terms say laptops come with a pre-loaded Windows operating system but no other software.
- A data plan. Vodacom’s terms describe Mobile Broadband (MBB) contracts as data contracts for tablets, laptops or routers, rather than for use in a phone.
- A router or MiFi device, on some deals. This shares the data over Wi-Fi.
What’s usually not included:
- Anti-virus software. Vodacom’s terms say laptops aren’t pre-loaded with it, so you’re responsible for installing it.
- Office software or other programs. Budget for these if your work or studies need them.
- Vodacom device warranty cover. The manufacturer provides the warranty, and you contact the supplier named at purchase for support.
Device insurance isn’t automatic either. Vodacom’s terms recommend insuring devices against theft or damage.

1. Start with the job. Browsing, email and schoolwork need less than design work, coding or video editing. Check the processor, memory (RAM) and storage. 2. Work out your data use. Video calls and streaming use far more data than documents and email. Choose a data plan that matches how you’ll actually work. 3. Pick a term you can live with. A budget laptop on 36 or 48 months may feel slow before the contract ends. 4. Compare against the cash price. If the monthly total is well above buying the laptop and a separate data plan, the contract is mainly buying convenience. 5. Budget for software and security. Anti-virus and productivity software aren’t included. 6. Check coverage where you’ll use it. Mobile data speeds depend on the network where you are. 7. Prepare your documents. Vodacom’s terms list a government-issued ID, proof of address not older than three months and banking details. You’ll also need to consent to a credit bureau check. Some applicants may be asked for a refundable deposit, and approval isn’t guaranteed.
