The “s” in A30s marks a revised version rather than a new generation — and understanding that convention saves money across Samsung’s whole range.
What an s model actually is
Samsung uses the suffix for a mid-cycle refresh: the same broad phone with some components changed. Typically that means an adjusted camera arrangement, a different fingerprint sensor position, or a revised design.
What it almost never means is a meaningful jump in performance. An s model is a sibling, not a successor.
How to use that when comparing
If an A30 and an A30s are similarly priced, compare the actual specifications rather than assuming the s is better. Sometimes the changes are improvements; sometimes they are cost adjustments in a different direction.
The comparison that matters more is against a newer generation at the same price — a newer number almost always brings a longer support window, which outweighs a component tweak.
