The Galaxy A20 dates from 2019 and is past its software support window. It should not be financed on a 24-month contract, but that does not mean it is useless if you already own one.
If you own an A20
There is no urgency to replace a phone that still does what you need. What changes once updates stop is the security position, not the functionality.
Two sensible adjustments:
- Move banking and payment apps off it if security updates have ceased. This is the one genuine risk.
- Consider a battery replacement — inexpensive, and it restores most of the original experience on a phone this age.
Pair it with a SIM-only plan and it costs you very little per month.
What the A20 got right
It had an AMOLED screen at a time when entry phones almost universally used LCD. That is why these phones still look better than their price suggested — and why many are still in service.
When you do replace it
| Want | Look at |
|---|---|
| The same AMOLED quality, current support | Galaxy A15 |
| Longest update window at low cost | Galaxy A16 |
| Cheapest total over two years | Buy outright, take SIM-only |
Check that any replacement supports 4G at minimum — older network generations are being retired. See 3G contract deals.
