The S-series is better. The question is whether it is better in ways you will use. For a large share of buyers the upper A-series covers everything they actually do, and the difference funds a substantially cheaper contract.
Where the real gaps are

The first two are the honest case for the S-series. The rest have narrowed to the point where the premium is hard to justify on them alone.
What the A-series has that the S-series does not
- Expandable storage. Many A-series models retain microSD; the S-series generally does not. That makes flagship storage tiers a permanent, expensive decision.
- Larger batteries, in several models.
- Lower replacement cost if it is lost or damaged.
The storage point matters more than it sounds. On the S-series you must buy the capacity up front; on much of the A-series you can add a card later for a fraction of the cost.
