The catalogue deals we list below aren’t marked upgrade only, and MTN also runs separate upgrade-only deals. MTN’s online shop showed a shorter list when we checked on 12 September, so confirm the deal you want is available in your channel.

What the “upgrade only” label means
An upgrade-only deal is aimed at existing MTN contract customers whose contract is due for renewal. The catalogue deals in the table above carry no upgrade-only label, but MTN’s upgrade pages have separate offers, such as the iPhone 15 at R589 pm x 36 with core boosted to 3GB and 160 minutes. MTN’s online shop also marked its iPhone 15 and iPhone 17 Pro listings “upgrade only” on 12 September. If you’re a new customer, ask MTN which price applies to you.

Pre-owned iPhone 13 and iPhone 14
The pre-owned models are the cheapest way into an iPhone on MTN. The catalogue also sells the two together as a pre-owned iPhone 14 + iPhone 13 pair at R799 pm x 36, which isn’t labelled “2 FOR 1”. On the iPhone 13 product page, MTN’s deal builder let us choose a new or additional contract or an upgrade, 128GB storage, a Voice & data or Airtime only plan type, and a 24- or 36-month term. Pre-owned phones are a different purchase from a new phone. Check the warranty period, the device grade or condition description, and the battery information MTN gives before you commit to 24 or 36 months of payments.
iPhone 16e
At R499 pm x 36 on core, the iPhone 16e is the lowest-priced new iPhone in MTN’s catalogue, and it isn’t marked online only or upgrade only there. It’s the obvious starting point if you want a new device rather than a pre-owned one.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 17 Pro
The catalogue lists the iPhone 15 at R549 pm x 36 on core and the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB at R1 199 pm x 36 on deluxe, with no upgrade-only label. MTN’s online shop marked both upgrade only on 12 September and also showed a 512GB iPhone 17 Pro. Monthly Prices and Contract Terms
MTN builds its device deals as a device repayment plus a plan. On the pre-owned iPhone 13 page, the order summary split the lowest deal into a device amount and a Yellow Core plan amount that together made up the monthly total. That split matters: when you move to a bigger plan, only part of your monthly payment is the phone.
What to compare on each deal:
- Term length. The iPhone 13 builder offered 24 and 36 months. The catalogue quotes prices over 36 months. A shorter term usually means a higher monthly payment for the same device.
- Total contract cost. Multiply the monthly price by the number of months to see what you commit to overall.
- Plan tier. MTN’s plan ladder on the iPhone 13 page ran from Yellow Core, Yellow Plus, Yellow Prime and Yellow Deluxe up to several Sky Premium tiers.
- Annual price changes. Contract prices can be adjusted during the term. Read the terms on the deal before you sign.
- Once-off costs. Check for any connection, SIM or delivery charge on the checkout page rather than assuming there is none.
What Is Included
On the pre-owned iPhone 13 page, each plan showed a bundle of anytime data and all-net minutes, and the higher Sky Premium tiers also listed extras such as a discount on MTN Home Internet and priority service or a relationship manager. Networks, Retailers or Providers to Compare
MTN is one of several routes to an iPhone on contract. When we checked in September 2026, Vodacom listed iPhone 17 models in more storage sizes, and Telkom’s catalogue listed iPhones from a pre-owned iPhone 13 up to the iPhone 17 Pro Max on its FlexOn plans. Retailers that sell network contracts may also carry MTN deals, but the plan and pricing can differ from MTN’s own shop.
