Takealot doesn’t sell cellphone contracts. It sells phones outright, including new, parallel-imported, network-locked and pre-owned models, and you pay at checkout with the payment methods Takealot offers. If you want a monthly plan, you add a SIM-only or prepaid plan from a network separately. Takealot does sell prepaid starter packs and data bundles.

Searching Takealot’s cellular department for “contract” returned no products when we checked in September 2026, and older contract SIM listings are no longer live. This page explains how buying a phone on Takealot compares with a network contract, and what to check before you buy. To compare retailers that do sell contracts, see Contract Deals by Retailer. To compare phone contracts from the networks, go to Contract Deals.

Current Takealot Contract Deals

CURRENT MARKET FACT (checked 25 September 2026 against Takealot’s own product search): Takealot does not sell cellphone contracts. A search for “cellphone contract” returned zero products, while control searches on the same system returned 36 results each — so the zero is a real absence, not a failed query. A search for “contract deal” returned 15 results, all of them books and films titled The Contract.

What Takealot does sell is handsets outright, at cash prices:

Phone Cash price
Samsung Galaxy A06 64GB Dual Sim R1 899
Apple iPhone 15 128GB R13 899

Those outright prices are the most useful thing on this page, because they give you a benchmark for any contract you are weighing up elsewhere. Telkom listed the same iPhone 15 at R499 PM over 36 months — R17 964 across the term. That is around R4 000 more than buying it outright here, though the Telkom figure includes three years of data, minutes and SMS, so the fair comparison is to add a SIM-only plan to the R13 899 and weigh the two totals.

The same applies at the entry level. A Galaxy A06 at R1 899 outright sits alongside the same handset at R1 799 from Edgars and Ackermans, and R2 499 from PEP — all outright, all unlocked, none of them a contract.

Note also that Takealot lists third-party marketplace sellers alongside its own stock, so a very low price may be an unbranded import rather than the model you expect. Check the seller and the exact specification before ordering.

PLAN FACT: this page covers Takealot as an online retail route for phones.

Takealot Deals by Brand

Brand What to check on Takealot
Apple iPhone Whether it’s local stock, a parallel import or pre-owned; storage size; seller warranty
Samsung Galaxy Local stock or parallel import, since warranty and software support can differ
OPPO, Xiaomi, HONOR and other Android brands Local warranty, 5G band support for your network, and seller ratings
Budget brands such as itel, Mobicel and Hisense Whether the model is network-locked and to which network

Prices on Takealot change often and can differ between sellers of the same model. Compare the listing’s seller, warranty and delivery terms, not only the headline price.

Parallel imports

A parallel import is a genuine phone brought into South Africa outside the manufacturer’s local distribution. It can cost less, but check who provides the warranty. Also confirm the model supports South African network bands.

Choosing a plan to go with your Takealot phone

Once you’ve picked a handset, decide how you’ll pay for calls and data:

If the phone is network-locked, your plan must be on that network.

Double and Bundle Deals

Takealot doesn’t offer network double deals. You can still build your own bundle:

Compare the combined cost with a network double deal over the same period. Remember that a contract double deal usually means two monthly commitments.

Application, Delivery and Collection Options

Paying for a phone on Takealot

There’s no contract application. You pay at checkout using one of Takealot’s accepted payment methods. Where credit or instalment options are offered, each provider runs its own application and approval, so approval isn’t guaranteed. Read the fees and repayment terms before choosing one.

Delivery and collection

Takealot delivers orders and offers collection options in many areas. Delivery times, fees and collection points depend on your location, the seller and the item. Check the options shown at checkout.

Returns and warranty

Before buying a phone, check the listing’s warranty and return terms. These can differ between new, parallel-import and pre-owned items, and between sellers.

Checks when your phone arrives

Buying online means you won’t see the phone before it’s delivered, so check it as soon as it arrives:

If anything is wrong, contact Takealot or the seller within the return period shown on the listing.

SIM and RICA

A new prepaid starter pack must be RICA registered before you can use it. Follow the network’s RICA process.

How to Compare Takealot Offers

Check Why it matters
Local stock or parallel import Affects warranty and support
Seller Marketplace sellers can have different warranty, returns and delivery terms
New or pre-owned Condition, battery health and warranty vary
Network lock A locked phone restricts your SIM choice
Payment option costs Credit and instalment options can add interest or fees
Monthly plan cost Add your SIM-only or prepaid spend to compare with a contract
Contract total Price the same phone on contract, including fees, over the full term

A quick total-cost check

Take the Takealot price, add any payment option costs, and add what you’d spend on a SIM plan over 24 months. Compare that with 24 monthly payments on a network contract for the same phone, plus connection fees. If the totals are similar, the Takealot route gives you more flexibility. If the contract is clearly cheaper, the bundled plan is adding value.
