Retailers let you browse and apply for network contracts through a store or website you already know. They may carry deals from more than one network, run their own promotions and handle delivery. The contract itself is usually with the network, so the network’s credit check, plan and terms still apply.
This hub sits under Cellphone Contract Deals South Africa. To compare deals across networks, retailers and providers together, go to Contract Deals.
Compare Retailer Contract Deals
Buying through a retailer rather than directly from a network can change the price, promotions and service you get, even for the same phone.
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Networks carried | Some retailers offer several networks, others focus on one |
| Device range | Specialist stores may carry a narrower but deeper range |
| Retailer promotions | Extra discounts, bundled accessories or trade-in offers can apply |
| Application route | Online, in store, or via a callback from an agent |
| Delivery and collection | Delivery areas, timeframes and RICA on delivery |
| After-sales support | Who handles returns, repairs and contract queries |

Phone Deals by Brand
Retailers differ in how many brands they carry.
- Specialist stores such as iStore focus on one brand, which helps if you already know you want an iPhone.
- Multi-brand cellular stores and online platforms usually carry Samsung Galaxy, iPhone, HONOR, OPPO, Xiaomi and other brands across several networks.
- General retailers may stock a narrower range, often weighted towards affordable models.
When comparing the same phone at different retailers, choose the same storage version and network plan, then compare monthly cost, term and any retailer-specific extras.
Double and Bundle Deals
Retailers often list network double deals and may add their own bundles, such as a phone with accessories or a second device. Vodacom’s Double Deals, for example, put two phones, or a phone and a tablet, on one contract, and these can be sold through retail partners.
Check whether the second device is financed, discounted or a genuine 2-for-1, and whether any retailer bundle changes the contract terms. A double deal does not automatically mean the second device is free.
Application and Delivery Options
Applying
- Online: fill in an application on the retailer’s site. The network then runs its credit and affordability check.
- In store: a consultant helps you choose and submits the application.
- Callback: some online platforms collect your details and an agent contacts you to finalise.
You may be asked for ID, proof of address, recent bank statements or payslips, and banking details. Approval depends on the network’s assessment and is never guaranteed.
Delivery
Delivery options, areas and timeframes vary by retailer. Your SIM usually needs to be RICA registered, which may happen on delivery or in store. Confirm delivery terms before applying, and don’t rely on a specific delivery date.
How to Compare Retailer Offers
1. Match the deal: same phone, storage, network and price plan. 2. Compare the monthly payment and total cost over the full term. 3. Check once-off fees: upfront, SIM, connection or delivery charges. 4. Look at extras: retailer promotions, accessories or trade-in value, and their conditions. 5. Read the contract terms: upgrades and cancellation are set by the network, not the retailer. Vodacom, for example, requires at least 20 business days’ notice to cancel. 6. Check support: who to contact if the device is faulty or the order is delayed.
For tablets, laptops and routers on contract, see Device Contract Deals.
Retailer Deal FAQs
Is it cheaper to get a contract through a retailer or directly from the network?
It can vary. Retailers sometimes add their own promotions, while networks may have direct-only offers. Compare the total cost of the same deal in both places.
Who is my contract with if I buy through a retailer?
Usually the network. The retailer sells and processes the deal, but the network’s contract terms apply.
Can I upgrade through a retailer?
Many retailers process upgrades as well as new contracts. Eligibility depends on your network account.
Where can I learn more before applying?
