Edgars sells phones and other mobile tech, but its website doesn’t list network contracts. Phones are sold outright or as “Box Deals” linked to Vodacom, MTN, Cell C or Telkom. If you want to pay over time, you can use an Edgars Account or a financing partner such as Mobicred or PayJoy at checkout. Approval for each is subject to its own assessment.
So an “Edgars mobile contract” is really a device bought on credit, paired with a prepaid or SIM-only plan. This page explains how that compares with a network contract and what to check. To compare retailers that do sell network contracts, start with Contract Deals by Retailer. For phone contracts from the networks themselves, compare Contract Deals.
Current Edgars Mobile Contract Deals
CURRENT MARKET FACT (checked 25 September 2026 on Edgars’ cellular range): Edgars sells handsets outright rather than on network contract. Its range is dual-SIM devices at cash prices, with a shop-by-network filter covering Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom:
| Phone | Cash price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| ITEL A65 2+32GB 4G Dual Sim | R999.90 | — |
| SPECTRA J3 Lite Dual Sim | R1 299.90 | — |
| Samsung Galaxy A06 Dual Sim | R1 799.90 | 10% off, was R1 999.90 |
| HONOR Choice T10 64GB 4G | R1 899.90 | 5% off, online only, was R1 999.90 |
| Samsung Galaxy A07 4/64GB Dual Sim | R2 199.90 | 27% off, was R2 999.90 |
| XIAOMI Redmi A17 4GB+128GB Dual Sim | R3 799.90 | — |
| HONOR X6E 4GB+128GB Dual Sim | R3 799.90 | 5% off, was R3 999.90 |
| HONOR X7E 128GB+6GB Bundle | R5 499.90 | 8% off, was R5 999.90 |
| HUAWEI Nova 14I 8GB+256GB Dual Sim | R5 999.90 | — |
Because these are outright purchases, the cash price is the total — there is no interest, no term and no early-settlement question. That makes them a clean benchmark: take any contract monthly for the same handset, multiply by the term, add any upfront or connection fee, and compare the two figures directly.
The discounts above were live promotions on the day and move frequently, with one marked online-only. Confirm the current price before relying on it, and remember that buying outright still leaves you to arrange a prepaid or SIM-only plan separately.

Edgars Mobile Phone Contract Deals
Because Edgars doesn’t sell network contracts online, the useful comparison is Edgars device on credit plus your own SIM against a network phone contract.
| Factor | Edgars phone on credit plus SIM | Network phone contract |
|---|---|---|
| Who you owe | Edgars Account, Mobicred or PayJoy for the device; your network for airtime | The network, for device and plan |
| Plan | Prepaid or SIM-only, your choice | Fixed plan for the term |
| Network lock | Some Box Deals are network-locked | The contract network only |
| Term | Set by your credit agreement | Usually 24 or 36 months |
| Credit check | By the credit provider you choose | By the network |
| Upgrade | Whenever you’re ready to buy again | At the network’s upgrade date |
Who Edgars may suit
- Edgars account holders. The Edgars Account page lists interest-free 3- or 6-month payment plans on Edgars purchases, which can make a phone cheaper to spread out than a long contract. Confirm this applies to your cellular purchase.
- Prepaid users. You get a new phone without a monthly plan.
- Shoppers who want flexibility. Keep your number and plan, and change networks if the phone isn’t locked.
“Mobile deals” can mean three different things
The phrase covers arrangements that differ in what you sign:
- A network contract, where the handset and a price plan are bundled and the agreement sits with the network.
- A store account or credit purchase, which finances the device alone — no airtime, and the agreement is with the retailer or its credit provider.
- An outright purchase, paid once, with a prepaid or SIM-only plan added separately.
Monthly figures from all three look alike on a shelf label. Ask which one you are being quoted, who bills you, and whether any airtime or data is included.
When a network contract may suit you better
- You want data and minutes bundled into one monthly payment.
- You want a high-end phone spread over two or three years.
- You’d rather not manage a credit account and a separate airtime spend.
Edgars Mobile Deals by Brand
Edgars’ cellular range includes Samsung, Huawei, HONOR, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo and TECNO, among others.
| Brand | What to check at Edgars |
|---|---|
| Apple iPhone | Model generation, storage and whether the listing is open network |
| Samsung Galaxy | Whether it’s a Box Deal locked to one network or open |
| HONOR, OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi | Storage, network lock and the outright price against a contract |
| Huawei | Whether Google services are supported on the model |
| TECNO and entry-level phones | Whether a Box Deal includes airtime or data, and for how long |
Listings use a network-locked filter. Use it to find phones that work with the SIM you already have.
Double and Bundle Deals
Edgars’ bundles are mainly Box Deals, where a handset is packaged for a specific network. They aren’t network double deals with two devices on a monthly contract.
Before choosing a Box Deal, check:
- Which network it’s locked to. A locked phone only works with that network’s SIM.
- What’s in the box. Some deals include a starter pack or bonus airtime or data; confirm on the listing.
- How long any bonus lasts. Bundled data is often once-off.
- The open-network price. Compare with the same phone unlocked.
If you want two devices on one monthly agreement, compare network double deals instead. You could also buy two devices on your Edgars Account and weigh up the combined repayments.
Application, Delivery and Collection Options
Edgars Account
The Edgars Account is a store credit card administered by RCS. You apply online, and approval depends on a credit and affordability assessment. According to the Edgars Account page, benefits include interest-free 3- or 6-month plans on Edgars purchases and 24- or 36-month revolving repayment options. You can also buy airtime and data with the account.
Mobicred and PayJoy
Both are listed as payment options on Edgars’ cellular section. Each has its own application, approval, fees and repayment terms. PayJoy-style financing can restrict the phone if payments are missed, so read the terms carefully.
Before you buy a phone on credit
Taking a phone on credit is still a financial commitment, even without a network contract. Before you apply:
- Check your monthly budget. Add the instalment to your airtime or data spend and make sure both fit comfortably.
- Read the full cost. Look at interest, initiation or service fees and any credit life or protection cover added to the account.
- Know the repayment period. An interest-free plan only helps if you can clear the balance inside that period.
- Understand missed-payment rules. Late payments can affect your credit record, and some device financing can restrict the phone.
- Avoid stacking credit. Taking a phone on credit while you’re still paying off another contract doubles your monthly obligations.
If you’re unsure, compare a lower-priced phone bought outright with a prepaid plan. It won’t lower your data costs, but it keeps you clear of new debt.
Delivery and collection
Edgars offers delivery on online orders and has a store finder for buying in person. Delivery costs and times depend on your order, so check at checkout. In-store stock can differ from online stock.
SIM and RICA
Any new SIM included in a Box Deal must be RICA registered before use. Bring your ID and proof of address if you’re buying in store.
How to Compare Edgars Mobile Offers
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Payment route | Edgars Account, Mobicred and PayJoy carry different costs and terms |
| Interest-free period | A short interest-free plan can beat a long contract on total cost |
| Total repayment | Instalments plus interest and fees show the real device price |
| Network lock | Locked Box Deals limit which SIM you can use |
| Airtime and data spend | Add your monthly plan cost to compare with a contract |
| Bonus data expiry | Once-off data may not last long |
| Returns and warranty | Check Edgars’ return policy for electronics |
| Contract alternative | Price the same phone on a network contract first |
Worked comparison, without the numbers
Pick one phone. Add its Edgars price and any credit costs, plus your expected prepaid or SIM-only spend over 24 months. Then take the same phone on a 24-month network contract and add up the monthly payments and fees. If the Edgars route is close, its flexibility may be worth more. If the contract is much cheaper, the bundled plan is doing the work.
