The 36-month option costs R280 less each month but about R1,068 more over the full contract at the entry prices. Check that you’re comparing the same plan on both terms. For reference, Vodacom listed the iPhone 16 once-off for R16,599, without a plan.

Data, Minutes and Included Extras
Every data deal we saw at the entry level included unlimited minutes, so the main decision is how much data you need. Airtime-based deals work differently: you get a rand value each month instead of a bundle. 1GB suits someone who is mostly on Wi-Fi. If you stream, use maps a lot or hotspot a laptop, look at 10GB or more.
The deal we opened also included a 1GB video ticket for three months and a promotional 30GB for 30 days. Both are short-term extras, not part of the monthly bundle, so don’t choose a smaller plan because of them.
