FNB Connect, the mobile service from First National Bank, offers smartphones, tablets and laptops on a 24-month contract, plus SIM-only plans, data bundles and prepaid airtime and data. The key difference from Vodacom, MTN, Telkom or Cell C is who can apply: FNB says its Connect deals are only available to FNB customers, through the FNB App. If you already bank with FNB, it may be worth comparing. If you do not, you would need a qualifying FNB account first.
This page explains how FNB Connect deals work, who qualifies, and what to compare against mainstream network contracts before you apply.
Latest FNB Contract Deals
CURRENT MARKET FACT (checked 25 September 2026 on FNB Connect’s shop): FNB Connect is an MVNO run by the bank, and the most important thing to know is structural: it does not sell fixed-term contracts. Its own page states plainly that its SIM plans are “month-to-month”, that you are “not locked into a fixed contract”, and that there is “no fixed term or long-term contract”.
That changes what you are comparing:
| FNB Connect | A standard network contract |
|---|---|
| Month-to-month, cancel with notice | Fixed 24 or 36-month term |
| No long-term credit commitment for the plan | A credit agreement with an affordability assessment |
| Physical SIM or eSIM | Usually a physical SIM |
| Devices sold separately | Handset bundled into the monthly instalment |
FNB Connect did not publish SIM plan pricing on the pages we could reach, so confirm the monthly amount in the FNB app or in branch. What it does publish is the rewards structure, which is where its value sits: a free unlimited WhatsApp messaging reward and 35 voice minutes every month on all SIMs, plus up to 15% back on SIM plan and prepaid bundle purchases. Terms apply to both.
It also sells devices — phones, laptops and TVs among them — and offers a Global Travel eSIM with prepaid data in over 200 destinations, with no SIM swap and no contract. Check coverage at your address on its coverage map before committing, since an MVNO’s reach depends on the host network.
If you specifically want a handset paid off monthly, FNB Connect is not that product. Compare the network and dealer routes for that, and treat FNB Connect as the flexible, no-lock-in alternative.
FNB Connect presents its offers in the FNB App and on its latest deals page. When checked in September 2026, the main deal types were:
| FNB Connect deal type | What it includes | Term | Who can get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Device deals | Smartphones, tablets and laptops | 24-month contract | Qualifying FNB customers via the FNB App |
| SIM-only plans | A SIM with a monthly plan and no device | Check the plan terms | FNB customers |
| Data bundles | Data bundles, including LTE-only data options | Bundle-based | FNB customers |
| WhatsApp bundles | Bundles focused on WhatsApp messaging | Bundle-based | FNB customers |
| Talk Max plans | Voice-focused plans | Check the plan terms | FNB customers |
| Prepaid airtime and data | Pay-as-you-go top-ups | No contract | FNB customers |
FNB also runs featured “Hero Deals”. It lists eligibility as holding a qualifying FNB account, having your salary paid into it, and using the FNB App.

What to compare on an FNB Connect deal
- Eligibility first: do you have, or want, a qualifying FNB account?
- Monthly cost over the full 24 months, including device repayments.
- Plan inclusions: data, minutes and SMS bundled with the device.
- Once-off costs, if any, on the specific deal.
- Total cost against the same device on another network or bought cash.
- What happens after 24 months to the plan attached to the device.
Who FNB Connect may suit
FNB Connect is most relevant to existing FNB customers who already use the FNB App and want their phone costs managed alongside their banking. If you are not an FNB client, or you want a wide choice of handsets and terms, the mainstream networks are usually the more direct comparison.
FNB Phone Contract Deals
FNB Connect does offer phone contracts. FNB lists smartphones, alongside tablets and laptops, on a 24-month contract. You apply and manage the deal through the FNB App, and FNB says you can also find a branch.
How FNB device deals differ from network contracts
| Factor | FNB Connect device deal | Typical network phone contract |
|---|---|---|
| Who can apply | Qualifying FNB customers only | Anyone who passes the network’s checks |
| Where you apply | FNB App, or branch | Network website, app, store or retailer |
| Term | 24 months | Often 24 or 36 months, sometimes month-to-month |
| Device range | Smaller, curated range | Usually a broader range of brands and models |
| Account link | Tied to your FNB banking relationship | Separate from your bank |
Bank device deal or network contract?
An FNB device deal and a network contract look alike on a monthly figure and differ underneath. The bank route finances the handset through your banking relationship, and the airtime or data side may be a separate FNB Connect plan. A network contract bundles device and plan under one agreement with the network.
That changes who you deal with when something goes wrong, what happens if you close the bank account, and whether the monthly amount includes any airtime at all. Ask which parts of the quote are device repayment and which are plan before comparing it with a network deal.
Eligibility for device deals
FNB’s device page lists these requirements:
- a qualifying transactional account with FNB;
- age 18 years or older;
- a South African ID or valid passport.
Device deals also depend on FNB’s credit and affordability assessment. Approval is not guaranteed, and FNB may apply further criteria to specific deals. If your credit record is a concern, read our guide to 2 phones on 1 contract deals for blacklisted and bad-credit applicants before you apply.
Is an FNB phone deal good value?
It can be, particularly if you already bank with FNB and want to keep your finances in one app. FNB promotes its device deals as cheaper than retail cash prices, but that depends on the device and the retailer. Compare the full 24-month cost with the cash price and with network contract offers for the same phone before deciding.
FNB SIM-Only and Data Deals
SIM-only plans
FNB Connect offers SIM-only plans, which give you a monthly allocation without a new device. They work in a phone you already own. This can be a lower-cost option than a device deal if your current phone still meets your needs.
Data, WhatsApp and Talk Max options
FNB Connect also offers:
- data bundles, including LTE-only data options;
- WhatsApp bundles for messaging-focused users;
- Talk Max plans for people who make more calls.
When comparing these options with SIM-only plans on other networks, check:
| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Data type | Anytime versus LTE-only or app-specific data |
| Validity | How long bundles last before they expire |
| Out-of-bundle rates | What you pay once the bundle runs out |
| Coverage | How the service performs where you live and work |
| Banking requirement | Whether you need to stay an FNB customer to keep the plan |
Prepaid
FNB Connect also sells prepaid airtime and data through FNB’s banking channels. Prepaid is not a contract, but it may suit people who want to control spend without a monthly commitment.
FNB Double and Combo Deals
FNB Connect’s pages did not show two-phone double deals or combo bundles when checked in September 2026. Its device deals appear to be structured as single-device offers.
Alternatives if you need two devices
- Compare double deals on other networks. Vodacom, Telkom and Cell C currently list two-device offers.
- Combine an FNB device deal with a SIM-only plan for a second user who already owns a phone.
- Consider a tablet or laptop deal from FNB separately if your second device is not a phone.
If you find a multi-device offer from FNB, check whether each device is on its own contract, what the total monthly cost is, and whether both deals are tied to your FNB account.
Popular Phones on FNB
FNB Connect’s device range covers smartphones, tablets and laptops. The specific models offered change over time and are shown in the FNB App and on FNB’s device pages.
How to choose a phone through FNB Connect
- Check the device in the FNB App to see current models, storage options and monthly costs.
- Compare the same model on other networks. See MTN Contract Deals and Vodacom Contract Deals to see how plan inclusions and terms differ.
- Check the plan bundled with the device. A phone deal is only good value if the included data and minutes suit you.
- Compare against the cash price. Multiply the monthly amount by 24 and compare with retail prices.
If the phone you want is not in FNB’s range, a network contract is likely the more practical route.
How to Apply or Upgrade on FNB
Applying for an FNB Connect deal
FNB describes the process as app-based:
1. Open the FNB App and select “Apply now”. 2. Navigate to Connect products and choose a device deal, SIM-only plan or bundle. 3. Confirm your eligibility, including a qualifying FNB account. 4. Complete the application, including any credit and affordability checks for device deals. 5. Complete RICA for your SIM, which applies to all South African SIM cards.
You can also find an FNB branch for help in person.
Documents and details you may need
FNB lists a South African ID or valid passport for device deals. Because you are already an FNB customer, some of your details may already be on file. FNB may also check your account history and income as part of its assessment. For RICA, you may be asked for proof of address. Confirm the current requirements in the FNB App before applying.
Upgrading or changing your deal
FNB’s pages checked did not publish a detailed upgrade process. For upgrade eligibility on an existing device deal, check the Connect section of the FNB App or contact FNB. Before taking a new device, compare it with keeping your current phone on a SIM-only plan.
