The A73 was the last of Samsung’s A7x line. The tier has since been discontinued and folded into the A5x range — so a current equivalent exists, it simply has a different number.
Why the tier disappeared
The A7x models existed to offer a larger screen and near-flagship specifications below flagship prices. Over successive generations the A5x models grew to cover exactly that, and maintaining two similar tiers stopped making sense.
Nothing was lost. What the A73 offered is now available under an A5x name.
The current equivalents
| A73 feature | Now found on |
|---|---|
| Large 120Hz AMOLED screen | Galaxy A55 |
| Optical stabilisation, water resistance | Galaxy A54 |
| Best value in the range | Galaxy A35 |
The A35 in particular is worth a look — it shares most of what matters with the A55 at a lower price.
If you have found an A73 on offer
The A73 was sold as a 5G device. Before signing, ask for the full model number and the remaining security update window, in writing.
Discontinued stock is often discounted, which looks attractive. On a 24-month agreement it usually is not — a retired model receives less attention for updates and accessories become harder to source.
What it was
A large upper mid-range phone with a 120Hz AMOLED display, optical image stabilisation, rated water resistance and a 108-megapixel main camera. Details on the Galaxy A73 5G page.
