The iPad Pro is the most powerful tablet Apple makes — and more tablet than most people need. Its capability only pays off if your work genuinely uses it.
Who the Pro is actually for
- Illustrators and designers working in demanding creative apps
- Video editors cutting on the device
- Anyone using it as a primary computer with a keyboard
For reading, browsing, streaming and note-taking, a standard iPad or an Air does the same job for considerably less — running the same apps.

Budget for the accessories
This is where iPad Pro costs surprise people. The keyboard and pencil are sold separately and are expensive — and without them, much of the Pro’s advantage goes unused.
Include them in the total you finance. A Pro without a keyboard is an expensive way to browse.
Storage cannot be changed
No iPad takes a memory card. Choose capacity at purchase — upgrading later means replacing the device. Video work in particular consumes storage quickly.
Cellular or WiFi
A cellular model costs more and adds a monthly line. If the iPad will mostly be used at home or in an office, WiFi-only plus tethering from your phone covers occasional use for less.
