Switching to Cell C means two separate things: porting your number, and leaving whatever you are on now. The second is where most of the cost and difficulty sits, and it is worth resolving before you start.
Check what leaving costs you first
If you are mid-contract elsewhere, early cancellation normally carries a settlement charge covering the outstanding device value. That can outweigh any saving from switching.

Then test the service
Because Cell C runs largely on roaming, service quality varies by area. Test with a prepaid SIM at your home and workplace, including in the evening, before committing to a term.

- Apply for the Cell C contract or SIM-only plan you want.
- Request the port as part of the application, supplying your existing number.
- Keep your existing service active until the port completes.

Check your handset
If you are bringing your own phone, it must be unlocked and support the required bands. Handsets bought on a previous contract are sometimes locked to that provider until the term completes.
