MTN sells two-phone contracts under the label 2 FOR 1. When we checked in September 2026, these deals paired two identical Android phones on a 36-month contract. The first phone comes with a paid plan, and the second comes with its own entry-level plan that MTN marks as “Free with your device”. You pay one total monthly amount for the pair. None of the 2 FOR 1 pairs were iPhones. Separately, MTN’s September 2026 catalogue lists a pre-loved iPhone 14 + iPhone 13 pair at R799 pm x 36 on Yellow Plans core + MegaFlex 160, which isn’t labelled 2 FOR 1 (catalogue valid until 6 October 2026, checked September 2026).

How 2 FOR 1 differs from other networks’ two-phone deals
“2 FOR 1” doesn’t mean the second phone costs nothing overall. MTN builds the cost of both devices into one monthly payment, and the second device’s plan is smaller than the first. Vodacom’s Double Deals and Telkom’s double deals work in a broadly similar way, but the plans on each SIM are different. Compare the whole deal, not just the label. What Is Included in the Deal
On the vivo Y04 2 FOR 1 deal we checked, MTN’s deal builder showed:
- Device one: vivo Y04 256GB, colour choice, on Mega Flex R160 (R160 airtime each month).
- Device two: vivo Y04 256GB, colour choice, on Yellow Essential, with 750MB anytime data and 30 all-net minutes, marked “Free with your device”.
- One total monthly payment for both.
- Application type: “New or additional contract” or “Upgrade existing contract”.
So each phone gets its own plan. The first plan works as an airtime value, and the second is a small data-and-minutes bundle. This can work for a household where one person uses more airtime and the other mostly relies on Wi-Fi. If both users need regular mobile data, look closely at the second plan.
Questions to ask MTN before ordering
- Will the two plans show as one contract or two line items on the bill?
- Does the second plan’s allocation last the full 36 months?
- Can you add data to either SIM, and at what rate?
- If you cancel the paid line early, what happens to the free line and the second handset?
MTN’s older Two for One terms showed the pair as two separate line items. Those terms have expired, so don’t assume current deals work the same way.
Monthly Cost and Contract Length
Example (MTN, checked 12 September 2026): vivo Y04 256GB + vivo Y04 256GB on Mega Flex R160 and Yellow Essential, R389 PM x 36. Prices change, so confirm the current total on MTN’s site.
All 2 FOR 1 deals we saw ran for 36 months. That lowers the monthly amount, but it means three years of payments and a later upgrade date than a 24-month contract.

Cancellation and upgrades
The MTN 2 FOR 1 deal page didn’t set out cancellation rules for the pair. Before you sign, ask MTN:
- what early cancellation costs apply to each handset;
- whether you can cancel only the second line;
- whether a later upgrade applies to one device or both.
Credit vetting applies to new contracts and upgrades, and approval isn’t guaranteed.
Available Networks, Retailers or Providers

The 2 FOR 1 deals appear in MTN’s phones section, alongside single-device contracts, sale deals and upgrade-only deals. Some pairs were marked “online only”.
MTN stores and retailers
In-store and retailer stock may not match the online range. If you see a two-phone deal at a retailer, confirm that it’s an MTN 2 FOR 1 deal and which plan comes with each SIM.
Other networks
Vodacom (Double Deals), Telkom (FlexOn 2 Double deals) and Cell C (combo deals) all had two-phone offers when we checked. If MTN doesn’t have the handset you want as a 2 FOR 1 pair, compare those networks.
Who This Deal Is Best For
MTN 2 FOR 1 can suit you if:
- you want two budget or mid-range Android phones on one monthly payment;
- the second user needs a light allocation, such as a child’s first phone;
- you already use MTN or prefer its coverage where you live (check MTN’s coverage map for your area).
It may not suit you if:
- you want two iPhones (none were listed as 2 FOR 1; MTN’s only iPhone pair we found is the pre-loved iPhone 14 + 13 in its catalogue);
- both users need similar, larger data bundles;
- you want flexibility to split or cancel one phone during the term.
Alternative Phone and Bundle Deals
- Single iPhone on MTN. If an iPhone is the priority, compare MTN iPhone Contract Deals and consider a separate plan for the second person.
- One contract plus prepaid. Take one phone on contract and buy a prepaid handset for the second user.
- Two separate contracts. You’ll pay more, but each user gets their own plan and cancellation terms.
